How to Wear Skirts in Winter

For those of us who live in subarctic temperatures, winter can feel like skirts are an absolute no. There’s nothing worse than putting on a cute skirt, warm sweater, and a jacket then heading outside and feeling your leg hairs stand on end like they’re preparing for war. But wearing jeans and pants day in and day out for months on end totally blows. So, here’s a few ways to style your skirts for winter that won’t have you rushing back inside to change.

Mini Skirts, Tall Boots

When it comes to surviving winter, coverage is key. So, if you’re doing the mini skirt thing, you’re going to want to pair them with tall, thigh-high boots. Choose a mini skirt in a thicker fabric as well. Consider faux leather, wool, or corduroy to keep yourself warm. We love our Faux Leather Mini Skirt which comes in black, taupe, cream, and bronze. When choosing thigh-high boots, we particularly love the look of contrasting material – go for faux suede over faux leather. Our black Faux Suede Thigh-High Boots are perfect for this ‘fit. Throw on a thick, neutral-colored sweater and a black overcoat to complete the look. Whether you are hitting the mall for holiday shopping, heading to brunch with the besties, or curled up in a nice restaurant at a ski lodge, this ‘fit is the perfect winter companion.

ATTN: corduroy is trending! Jump on board and throw some corduroy in your wardrobe. We are vibing our Corduroy O-Ring Mini Skirt which comes in olive and berry. We love it paired with our Faux Leather Thigh-High Boots that have a comfy block heel and pointed toe. Rock a pair of thick black tights underneath and half tuck your wool sweater in for a chic winter street style.

The Winter Matching Set and Boots with the Fur

Winter = layers. Knowing how to pull everything together is a total art form. Here’s a winter ‘fit we’re loving atm: our Plaid Cardigan Sweater & Skirt Set. It’s a knit set featuring a cardigan sweater with dropped long sleeves, and button-front closures, paired with a matching mini skirt with a high-rise waist and bodycon silhouette. Comfy meets cute when you style a plain long-sleeve top underneath your cardigan, and pair it with our Faux Fur-Trim Booties. Complete the look with a big trench and cute red beret for extra warmth.

Long Skirts with Opaque Tights

If you’re heading out for a nice dinner or drinks with your besties, wearing a skirt on a winter night can be absolutely anxiety-inducing. It doesn’t have to be. Opt for a long skirt that you can wear opaque tights underneath. Style our Satin Ruched Drawstring Skirt in chocolate or pistachio with skin color tights, a neutral cami, and a thick, tan, camel, or cream coat. Throw on a thick wool scarf for another layer, and be sure to choose a longer coat rather than blazer length to give your legs some added warmth.

The most important thing to consider when wearing a skirt in the winter is making sure you have thick, quality boots to keep the heat in.
