Fashion / The Met Gala: A Punk Rock Primer
It may be just another Monday here in Los Angeles, but today in New York it is one of the biggest days of the year. That’s right, it is opening day for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture along with the iconic Met Gala. And even though we are a whole coast away from all the action, we’ll be glued to our computer screen to watch the red carpet as it unfolds. In the meantime, check out our punk rock primer below and get ready to rock.
Punk was spotted everywhere on the runways for Fall/Winter 2013. Designers from Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy to Donatella at Versace, to the Mulleavy sisters’ goth version at Rodarte, and of course the ultimate punk showing by Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, all ushered in the new wave.
Need to punk up your look right this second? Go for studded embellishments, cross motifs, layers and layers of spikes, and of course a pair of creepers thrown in for good measure. Extra points for sporting a multi-colored ‘do. You’ll fit right into the mosh pit.
Want more punk fash?! Keep a lookout for our Red Carpet Recap tomorrow of the Met Gala and follow along with us as we live Tweet during the event tonight starting at 4PM (PDT)!
