Fashion / Red Carpet Recap: 2013 Met Gala

Confession: We were totally glued to our computer screens last night, watching the punk rock red carpet drama unfold at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala (otherwise known as The Met Gala or the Oscars of Fashion) and we might have gushed over every sneak peek we could get of the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition. So without further ado, blast some Ramones and check out our fav punks in our Red Carpet Recap below!

Met Gala Best Dressed-Gamines The new wave darlings of the red carpet served up a heavy dose of fashion fabulousness at the Met Gala last night. Hailee Steinfeld rocked a safety pin embellished Donna Karan Atelier dress that skirted the pretty in punk theme, whilst Dakota Fanning slithered up the grand staircase in straight-off-the-runway Rodarte. Kristen Stewart sent our parents running with her Stella McCartney jumpsuit, but it was our gal J-Law, in prim Christian Dior, that was the flawless antidote to them all.

Met Gala Best Dressed-Risk Takers

Never the ones to play it too safe, these risk takers reminded us that punk rock is not dead. Lauren Santo Domingo donned one of our favorite looks of the whole night (in Dolce & Gabbana, no surprise!) and Carine Roitfeld was decked in the soon-to-be-everywhere Givenchy Fall 2013 graphic of choice. Dree Hemingway stuck to easy rock basics and Kate Bosworth stole our hearts in shockingly sparkly Balmain.

Met Gala Best Dressed-New Wave

Even though the invitation said punk, we do love a classic twist courtesy of these sleek and sophisticated modern muses. Olivia Wilde wore custom Calvin Klein, Ashley Olsen billowed in vintage Christian Dior Haute Couture, Cameron Diaz radiated in Stella McCartney, and Gatsby girl Carey Mulligan shot us major angles in Balenciaga.

Met Gala Best Dressed-Punks

For our final bow, we had to pay homage to the rockers who know what it means to dress the part. Model crush of the moment Cara Delevingne slipped into custom spiked Burberry and the original goddess of 90s punk Gwen Stefani was all tied up over Maison Martin Margiela. Diane Kruger gave us a peek of punk with her candy-hued tips, while Miley Cyrus went all slinky with her mesh maxi and cherry pout.

Now that you’ve peeped our picks, share your red carpet darlings in the comments below!
