Fashion / GUEST POST: BLISS KATHERINE: DREAM GETAWAY TO SANIBEL ISLAND
GUEST POST FROM BLISS KATHERINE:
My feet trod through sand as I walk through a forest full of tropical flowers and palms, only hearing the sound of the ocean behind me. The hibiscus are blooming and as red as cherries. I’m on a mini getaway with my mother, which is nostalgic. I don’t go much of anywhere with her and adventuring was our original bond when I was a child. We would climb deserted cliffs in Hawaii, deep diving with snorkels to admire coral reefs up close, she taught me to jump in the water with wild dolphins without fear any chance I got, and multiple times we roamed in tropical forests in Mexico looking for parrots. That adventuring spirit has stuck with me ever since.
Later I find myself under the cool Gulf water, running my palms across the ocean floor looking for conch shells and sand dollars. Sanibel Island is famous for it’s piled shell beaches, starfish and sand dollar collection. I admired roaming around the beach and in the town wearing my white flare dress, gladiator sandals, and sun hat. A little girl came up to me and said, “you’re pretty”, then ran off. It made my day and reminded me of youth. Another day was spent on a boat then laying on rafts in the middle of the ocean. I ran my fingers through the tops of waves and thought about all my travels and the blessed life I live. A bottlenose dolphin appeared and came very close then disappeared again. I spent 4 days with sun kissed skin, salty hair, and new freckles.
Life is beautiful and places like this help me remember.
